Rt Hon. Mudashiru Obasa
The Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Mudashiru Obasa while commending the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode for investing in the State security, recalled that the LSNSC recently celebrated its one year anniversary and there was need to review their activities and achievements in respect to security in the State.
According to the Acting Chairman House Committee on Information, Strategy, Publicity and Security, Hon. Tunde Braimoh stated that the LSNSC has recorded lots of achievements since their inception and the agency has performed tremendously well in terms of information gathering, community policing, and apprehending grassroots criminals
amongst others.
Hon. Tunde Braimoh
Hon. Braimoh also added that there have been so many petitions and complaints by both members of the public and the staff in respect to non-remuneration in the agency, lack of staff motivation, inadequate protective gadget, insurance, inadequate trainings of officers and other management crisis within the agency.
“There has been a good synergy between the LSNSC officers, the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies. Suspected criminals
have been apprehended and handed over to the police. It is reported that the agency complained about unpaid salaries of their staff,
inadequate protective gadgets which led to the gruesome killings of some of their men by the criminals and some were left injured. They
thereby requested for more equipment and insurance cover for their staff in order to serve better.” He reported.
Contributing, Hon. Bisi Yusuff representing Alimosho Constituency I, commended the Speaker for sponsoring the bill adding that “before we can do justice to the evaluation, there is need to call their management to tell us the problem confronting them and I think their
ineffectiveness stem out of their management crisis.
Hon. Sanai Agunbiade
The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade representing Ikorodu Constituency I, affirmed that the Corps has helped his Constituency in terms of information gathering during the Badoo saga and also assisted in bursting and arresting obnoxious gangs.
“The issue of non-remuneration of staff not being motivated can be compromised.” He stated.
The Speaker thereafter directed the Clerk of the House, Mr. Azeez Sanni to write a letter to the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps-LSNSC management to appear before the House on Tuesday 10th April, 2018 during its Plenary Session.
