Lagos Assembly to award meticulous Lagosians

The Lagos State House of Assembly has considered the Lagos State Award Scheme bill 2017.
This was made known today during the second reading of the bill for a law to establish the Lagos State Award Scheme to specify among other things the privileges of the recipients and for connected matter.
Hon. Sanai Agunbiade
According to the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, the executive bill is to establish the Lagos State Merit Award which benefits will confer on recipients the privilege of using the award to being qualified for certificates and medals as well as such other privileges.
“The bill is meant to be a kind of motivation to individuals who have served meritoriously the State in different capacities”
He further stated that the bill also provides for a Council to be constituted of a Chairman of 5 Members representing each of the 5 divisions of the State.
The bill conferred on the Council to conduct the making of the awards and reveal the conditions for who is qualified for the awards.
Contributing, Hon. Tunde Braimoh representing Kosofe Constituency II, stated that the proposition of the bill is relevant to the development of Lagos State.
“It is a bill that seeks to reward and commend  excellent performance.
“We need to find a way of celebrating and appreciating those members in our community that have excelled and distinguished themselves in their areas of callings or special requests.”
Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa in his submission stated that  the only thing missing in the bill is that the award of recognition should go beyond naming or giving plaque but should be a kind of  special treat and benefit attached to it so as to encourage others to be willing to do more.
He thereafter committed the bill to Ad hoc Committee on Special Duties for further scrutiny and to get back to the House in two weeks.
